CIODAY 2024: Insights & Take-aways

“Tomorrow is Today”

CIODAY 2024 marked the 20th edition of the annual networking event for the top executives from the demand side of the multi-billion-euro IT market. The event gathered more than 400 CIO, IT VPs, and IT Directors in Amsterdam, with Amrop once again taking part as a valued sponsor with the participation of Job Voorhoeve, Global Digital Practice leader.

We talked to Job after the event and asked him to share his key learnings from conversations with C-suite and Board-level tech leaders at the event, the discussion table he hosted and the workshop that he lead on Amrop's Digital Competence Model and how IT/tech leaders can benefit from doing the Digital Leadership Assessment.

Heineken’s global-level success

“The CIODAY this year featured top-tier speakers, interactive sessions, and workshops focused on IT strategy and innovation,” said Voorhoeve. “Major relevant topics such as geopolitics and cybersecurity, AI and diversity and strategies to boost women's involvement in technology, were widely discussed. Technology was considered in the context of how it can benefit people and add value both to their lives and the ways they work; people skills rather than just technological ability were emphasized. Design – beauty, convenience, easy-to-use aspect of products and innovation, was another recurring theme, which also led the way in one of the previous years.

“It was a great honor to be sharing the table with this year’s winner of the CIO of the Year title, Ing Yan Ong, the Global CIO at Heineken,” Voorhoeve continues. “We fully support the jury’s decision, considering the successful, large-scale digital transformation which Ong achieved at Heineken – it was a great success not just for the Dutch market, but on a global scale. Likewise, it was great to meet and reconnect with the many CIOs, CTOs and CISOs which we’ve placed in the recent years, as well as many of the other CIOs present at the event.”

Unlocking your Digital Leadership Potential

“This year I had the great opportunity to present the new format of Amrop's Digital Competency Model in a workshop - with an online solution which we are launching in the coming months, and which will be supporting both our Leadership Advisory Practice and the Digital Practice, to help CIO's teams and organizations’ further growth,” Voorhoeve explained. “The Digital Competency Model was enthusiastically received by all CIOs participating in the workshop – there were approximately 30 CIOs taking part. We had great interactions and a lively discussion talking about development. I also talked about my past professional experience which inspired me to support other professionals’ growth and development.”

At the workshop “Unlock your Digital Leadership Potential” the Digital Competency Model was presented and ways of how IT/Tech Leaders can benefit from doing the Digital Leadership Assessment were discussed. “At Amrop we have developed a Digital Competency Model which delivers insights into one’s Tech leadership skills and how to assess and develop them,” Voorhoeve explains further. “It can elevate one’s ability to drive digital transformation within one’s organization. At the workshop the CIOs worked on their approach to becoming better future leaders, considered their own recent personal development, as well as what they’re looking to achieve in the context of what the future of CIO role is.”
